Ziff Davis and Laszlo Systems Take Top Honors with Application Development Trends’ 2005 Innovator Award

1 January 1970

Laszlo Systems, developer of the Laszlo open source platform and provider of rich Internet applications (RIAs) and services, today announced that its client Ziff Davis Media Game Group’s online gaming destination, 1UP.com, has earned an Application Development Trends 2005 Innovator Award in the Open Source Application Development category.

1UP.com features two Laszlo-powered rich Internet applications – SizzleZone and GameFinder – to deliver an intuitive, highly interactive user experience to its tech-savvy gamer audience. The Innovator Awards, produced by Application Development Trends, recognize the creativity and effort of IT development teams who have implemented unique application development and deployment projects to solve pressing business problems.

The awards are selected and judged by Application Development Trends editors and by a team of consultants at Keane Inc., a Boston-based consulting and outsourcing firm. Shampa Banerjee, Chief Technology Officer of the Ziff Davis Media Game Group, said, “We selected the Laszlo Presentation Server for two reasons. Laszlo’s XML-native development environment simplified the integration process with our extensive content management system, and their professional services team – Laszlo Studios –guided our use of rich Internet applications as we transformed our old site from just a Web site into an online community for our growing gamer audience.

Since the launch of our new site with its Laszlo-powered applications, we’ve experienced an 80-percent increase in page views and a 10-percent increase in unique daily visitors. We’re delighted to accept this Innovator award, which recognizes the collaboration between 1UP.com and Laszlo. ” On 1UP.com, the two Laszlo-powered applications are SizzleZone, which serves as the primary entry point to content and features on 1UP.com, and GameFinder. Using Laszlo’s seamless single-page user experience, 1UP.com gamers can view content without being interrupted by time-consuming page refreshes.

David Temkin, Laszlo’s Founder and Chief Technology Officer, said, “1UP.com is a great example of how Laszlo’s rich Internet applications are being used to create a next-generation user experience. We’re honored that our client has won an Innovator Award from Application Development Trends, a top-tier publication that is widely read by our respective target audiences, and that Laszlo was an integral part in their success.” The 2005 Innovator Awards winners will be promoted and recognized in the application development community and is profiled in the April 2005 issue of Application Development Trends.
