USI Teams Up with Freescale Semiconductor and ApplianceWare Software to Offer Market Leading Network Attached Storage Platforms for the SMB and SOHO M

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 21, 2006 –- Universal Scientific Industrial Co., Ltd. (USI) (TSE: 2350.TW), a leading global company in the Design and Manufacturing Services (DMS) industry, today announced the launch of a new product of network attached storage (NAS) platform, specifically designed for SOHO and small-medium business (SMB). Co-developed with Freescale and ApplianceWare, Inc. and leveraging the 8347 processor and ApplianceWare's Linux based NAS OS, the offering is expected launch in August, 2006 in both Asia and the US.


The new NAS product has 4 hot-swapped high-speed SATA hard drives, maximum memory up to 512MB, GB Ethernet capability to fulfill the requirements of high-capacity storage and high-speed transmission. The new platform designed for best in class price and performance by leveraging the Freescale MPC8347E PowerQUICC II Pro integrate host processor hardware with system logic for networking, storage, and general purpose embedded applications. The platform ships complete with an integrated and optimized version of the ApplianceWare Server Appliance Edition storage platform which includes both the ApplianceWare J2ME platform and the ApplianceWare Server Linux based storage operating system. The ApplianceWare Java Virtual Machine (JVM™) is based on the Sun Microsystems J2ME Connected Device Configuration (CDC) and enables value added software features that require a Java Virtual Machine. The ApplianceWare Server is a version of the Linux operating system optimized for the Freescale processor microarchitecture that offers comprehensive, high performance embedded NAS and iSCSI SAN functionality.


The new product is embedded with low power consumption solution. This NAS product co-developed by USI, Freescale, and ApplianceWare to be the industry's best NAS solution, is capable of meeting various requirements of SOHOs and SMBs with the best-in-class price and high performance.
