Sun Outperforms the Competition to Take Top Spot in UNIX Disk Storage Systems
1 January 1970Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - News) today announced that it holds the leading position in UNIX ® disk storage systems shipped for calendar year 2004, according to IDC's Q4 2004 Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker. Sun also increased its UNIX market share for units shipped by taking share away from both IBM and HP.
"This is further evidence that Sun is strengthening our position in the UNIX market at the expense of HP. HP continues to become more vulnerable in the storage space as the company erodes the position it inherited from Compaq," stated Mark Canepa, executive vice president of Sun's Network Storage Products Group. "This IDC data shows that our focus on building a comprehensive storage portfolio that meets our customers' needs is paying off."
In addition to the strong performance in the UNIX market, Sun Network Storage continues to solidify its storage position by growing its market share for units shipped in the total disk storage systems market by .8 points in 2004.
