Sleepycat's Java Database Powers General Dynamics CoMotion Visualization Software for Battlefield Analysis
1 January 1970Sleepycat Software, makers of the world's most widely deployed open source developer databases, today announced that General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, has deployed Berkeley DB Java Edition for CoMotion(R), an advanced visualization and collaboration tool that is the basis of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Command Post of the Future (CPOF) program. CPOF is used extensively by the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry and 3rd Infantry Divisions in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
"We're pleased that General Dynamics has chosen Berkeley DB Java Edition for use in critical decision-making processes that require rapid data analysis and visualization," said Mike Olson, CEO of Sleepycat Software. "Berkeley DB Java Edition is optimized for this type of high performance, mission-critical use."
CoMotion is Java-based collaborative visualization software built by General Dynamics. CPOF-CoMotion allows multiple users to rapidly analyze information and share it across the battlefield. User information is stored in the CoMotion repository built on Berkeley DB Java Edition which provides high performance data transactions in a lightweight, pure Java package.
Off the battlefield, executives rely on CoMotion and Berkeley DB to make business-critical decisions by improving supply-chain visibility, providing comprehensive views of patient records, enabling financial monitoring and planning and improving understanding of customer buying patterns.
