Fujitsu Computer Systems Announces Solaris 10 Will Be Available On PRIMEPOWER Servers

Customers Benefit From Combination of Mission-Critical Servers and Powerful Operating System

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 15 -- Fujitsu Computer Systems today announced the Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System from Sun Microsystems will be available on PRIMEPOWER(TM) servers. Solaris 10 is the most innovative and enterprise-hardened UNIX(R) Operating System in the market, delivering the highest levels of reliability, flexibility and ease-of-use, all inside an enterprise-level secure operating environment. PRIMEPOWER servers with the Solaris 10 operating system will enable maximum availability and reliability for mission critical applications to reduce costs and complexity. Sun plans to make Solaris 10 available in January 2005.

Fujitsu customers will benefit from multiple new features in the Solaris 10 Operating System. Some of the highlights include the Dtrace diagnostic engine for analysis and greater performance, Solaris Containers software that allows partitioning and workload management, and the new ZFS file system that gives customers flexibility to manage data and increase storage utilization.

"The unveiling of the Solaris 10 Operating System is greeted with excitement by our customers and the industry alike," said Richard McCormack, vice president of product and solutions marketing at Fujitsu Computer Systems. "Solaris 10 provides thousands of application developers with new functionality, and delivers unparalleled security and reduced complexity."

With outstanding performance records, PRIMEPOWER servers, from 2-processor systems through 128-processor systems, are leading the way in the field of UNIX servers. The outstanding performance capability is accompanied by the highest level of data processing reliability in the UNIX RISC server market. The addition of Solaris 10 to this impressive product family increases the overall market acceptance and enhances its competitiveness.

PRIMEPOWER servers are 100% compatible with the Solaris Operating Environment. In addition, any application developed using standard Solaris Application Program Interfaces (APIs) and Application Binary Interfaces (ABIs) will run on PRIMEPOWER servers without modification, including middleware software products offered from Sun ( http://www.sun.com/servers/fujitsu ).
