Red Hat VP to Oversee Open-Source Software Practice for Squire, Sanders & Dempsey
1 January 1970 Former Red Hat, Inc. Vice President Bryan A. Sims has joined global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey
L.L.P. to spearhead the firm's corporate and intellectual property law practice focused on the open-source computer software business.
Sims joins Squire Sanders after five years with Red Hat, the world's leading provider of the popular Linux operating system and pioneer in the open-source software movement. At Red Hat, Sims most recently was Vice
President of Corporate Development and before that held the positions of Associate General Counsel and Vice President of Business Affairs and Sales Operations. He is based in Squire Sanders' Tysons Corner office.

While at Red Hat, Sims pursued a variety of alliances for the company, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and partnerships. He also created and ran the group responsible for the global legal and business
negotiations associated with Red Hat's global partnership and customer relationship contracts. During his tenure at Red Hat, Sims closed significant deals with major hardware manufacturers such as Dell and IBM. In addition, he
guided the company's legal, business and public relations strategy for the Red Hat versus SCO case -- a seminal software case.
Before joining Red Hat in 2000, Sims was a lawyer with Arent Fox PLLC and with Arter & Hadden LLP, both in Washington DC. He received his B.A. in 1990 from Howard University in Washington DC and his J.D. in 1994 from Ohio State University College of Law.
