OpenLogic Expert Community Successfully Brings Together Open Source Community and Enterprise Users

1 January 1970

OpenLogic, Inc., a leading provider of software, stacks and support that enable enterprises to easily deploy and manage customized open source environments, today announced that the OpenLogic Expert Community has successfully resolved enterprise support issues for a range of open source products. The OpenLogic Expert Community is the first program to provide consolidated, commercial-grade support across a wide range of open source products by tapping the open source development community for enterprise support.

OpenLogic currently offers enterprise support for more than 160 certified open source products -- providing a single point of contact for enterprise open source issues. Through the Expert Community, OpenLogic pays qualified experts for help in resolving the most complex issues and shepherds enterprise issues through the entire process to resolution.

Since the launch of the community in May 2006, OpenLogic has validated multiple benefits to enterprise customers of the OpenLogic Expert Community model:

Fast, global response:

Open source software is known for its global development community. The OpenLogic Expert Community currently has members in 22 countries, with over half residing outside the United States. This allows the OpenLogic Expert Community to provide fast, global response regardless of location or time zone. For example, a large OpenLogic customer in Japan encountered a clustering issue with an open source server package. OpenLogic support technicians tapped an expert in South America to resolve the customer issue within 48 hours.

"Resolving issues through the Expert Community has been a great experience -- not only did I get compensated but I helped enterprises to successfully use open source software," said Felipe Leme, an Expert Community Member for Cactus.

Expert advice:

The OpenLogic Expert Community can also go beyond bug fixes to provide advice to enterprise users on the best way to configure, integrate and optimize open source packages. In a recent example, a large financial services firm used the OpenLogic Expert Community for advice on whether they had taken the right approach to making a code change in an open source package.

Anonymity for the enterprise:

Many OpenLogic enterprise customers are finding the Expert Community an important new communication channel to open source project leaders. Many companies want to keep the details of their open source usage private, limiting their ability to communicate directly with open source projects through public mailing lists. Through the Expert Community, enterprises can get bugs fixed and issues resolved for more than 160 open source packages while maintaining their anonymity.

"Many of our larger customers are very careful about discussing their open source usage publicly," said Steven Grandchamp, CEO of OpenLogic. "The Expert Community gives our customers the much-needed ability to communicate with open source projects effectively and anonymously."

To qualify as a member of the OpenLogic Expert Community, individuals must have "committer" status (enabling them to update source code for an open source product) or must be referred by a committer for one of the open source products supported and certified by OpenLogic. Interested open source developers can visit http://www.openlogic.com for more information.

In addition to consolidated support, OpenLogic offers a technology platform that offers customers a library of more than 160 pre-certified open source software packages, including the most popular open source databases, applications servers, IDEs and more. OpenLogic's platform is flexible and extensible, enabling companies to build customized stacks by choosing any combination of open source, commercial and proprietary software.

About OpenLogic

OpenLogic is a leading provider of software, stacks and support that enable enterprises to easily customize, deploy and manage commercial-grade open source environments. The OpenLogic solution also mitigates open source legal risks by enabling companies to manage and enforce open source policies.
