Montilio and Open Source Systems to Provide Fastest File Servers Available on the Market

1 January 1970

SC06 -- Montilio and Open Source Systems today announce a relationship aimed at delivering high-performance file servers at a fraction of competing offerings' prices. This better positions Open Source Systems' server and storage offerings in price-performance conscious markets, such as high-performance computing (HPC) and server farms, by integrating Montilio's high performance solutions. Customers will benefit from reduced server IT costs and lower TCO, as well as file server consolidation and reduced administrative overhead.

As part of the relationship, Montilio and OSS have entered into a reseller agreement that enables OSS to sell servers equipped with Montilio's RapidFile(tm) technology. This offering expands OSS' product lineup into the high-performance file server market, with entry-level system configurations equipped with Montilio's RapidFile card capable of exceeding 400MBytes/sec of file protocol bandwidth. The RapidFile card is available with OSS' top-of-the-line Xeon(r) and Opteron(r)-based servers.

"We are very excited about our new relationship with Montilio," said Jared Giles, VP of Marketing & Product Management at Open Source Systems. "The ability to increase file transfer performance at such an astounding rate without the prohibitive high cost of proprietary NAS and SAN devices, directly addresses the increasing technology needs and budget constraints of many IT departments."

"Montilio's top-performing RapidFile card and Open Source Systems' robust and stable computing platforms are a powerful combination," said Amir Hermelin, Director of Product Management of Montilio. "With OSS' growing product line and targeted vertical markets, they are an ideal partner for Montilio."

The RapidFile card is currently offered with the 2U and 3U Open Series Systems. The OS supported are Suse Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 10 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4.
