Mon.itor.us, Sourcio s Web Monitoring Service, Automatically Updates to a New Version
1 January 1970 Yerevan, Armenia, April 24, 2006 -- Sourcio (www.sourcio.com) has launched a new beta version of mon.itor.us (http://mon.itor.us), a free web site, network, and server monitoring service. The updated version addresses slow loading times and bugs reported in the beta release, and it also introduces new features including basic reporting as well as notifications through RSS feeds. The web-based service is updated automatically, with no need for users to download or install a patch or update. While the incresingly popular Ajax-powered service has been impressing reviewers with its accuracy, its ease of use, and its high levels of customizability, there have been some issues with slow loading times, high numbers of emails sent out to users, and bugs in the beta version. The updated version is still in the beta stage, but it hopes to correct these problems while at the same time adding more functionality to the service. The new features include failure notification through RSS feeds, as well as a reports which will let users see the history of daily uptimes, as well as minimum and maximum performance figures for selected tests. The reporting feature is rather basic at the moment, but future versions are likely to see even more functionality added in this area. Other improvements include a reduction of emails sent out to users, a preview mode to let users see a preview of their custom website, and tag editing in Test View mode that will allow users to conveniently group tests and reports. Since mon.itor.us is a web-based service rather than a traditional software program, users do not need to download or install any patches or updates themselves. Instead, they will see the new features adn improvements already implemented the next time they open their personalized mon.itor.us websites. Sourcio s management hopes that the way the update is implemented highlights one of the main advantages of mon.itor.us: ease of use. "Automatic updating requiress no action from our users, which saves them both time and hassle" states Hovhannes Avoyan, Sourcio s CEO. Powered by Ajax technologies and based on Nagios monitoring software, mon.itor.us combines the advantages of web-based applications with those of traditional desktop software for more customizable and personal interfaces. While web-based applications have several advantages over traditional desktop software including lower costs, no need for manual updating and patching, and cross-platform compatibility, they still lag behind traditional software in terms of ease of customization, interactivity, and ease of use. For example, users cannot "drag and drop" items, or create or move buttons in web applications the way they can on regular desktop software. Ajax addresses all of those issues, and therefore solutions powered by Ajax like mon.itor.us enjoy the advantages of both types of applications. NagiosŪ is a popular open source host, service and network monitoring program designed to inform users of network problems before their clients, end-users or managers do. By basing their service on Nagios, mon.itor.us is using software that already has a proven track record among many big companies.
