Mac OS X Gets New Networked Storage Solution From Under $1 per Gigabyte
1 January 1970 Coraid, Inc., makers of EtherDrive® storage appliances, today announced that 2DegreesFrost Software has released an AoE (ATA over Ethernet) driver for Mac OS X. This new driver enables a significant breakthrough in cost and scalability of storage for the Apple Macintosh platform. The companies have teamed up to release a commercial version of AoE for that delivers virtually limitless storage for Mac OS X users. "Mac users now have a new option for networked storage that allows them to scale their storage for well below $1 per Gigabyte," said Jim Kemp, CEO of Coraid. "By teaming with 2DegreesFrost Software we have been able to extend all of the same cost breakthroughs and benefits of EtherDrive Storage to the data intensive applications of Mac OS X users. Extending AoE support to Mac OS X provides customers a new choice in proven, high-quality storage technology." EtherDrive Storage products use the AoE (ATA-over-Ethernet) storage protocol, a simple alternative to iSCSI or Fibre Channel. AoE enables disks to be shared on the network creating a highly scalable storage system at the lowest possible price. High capacity disks and low cost networking means massively scalable storage networks are now economically feasible for many of today's data hungry applications. EtherDrive Storage can scale one disk at a time to multi-PetaBytes of storage capacity, providing virtually limitless storage. Highlighted Links Coraid "2DegreesFrost Software worked hard to provide a Mac-friendly, easy-to-use experience for our customers, developing new Mac-only technology that provides automatic discovery and auto-mounting of AoE disks," commented Susan Frost, CEO of 2DegreesFrost Software. "Storage and backup demands are growing for Mac users across the board, especially for those in the business of Content Creation and Delivery, Education, Scientific Computing and the Small/Medium Business. We are excited to add this new enabling technology that expands storage at a significantly reduced cost for the Mac OS X community." The 2DegreesFrost AoE Driver™ for Mac OS X is available today for both Intel and PowerPC systems as a Universal Binary, and may be downloaded from 2Degrees Frost Software website at http://www.2degreesfrost.com and is introductory priced at $159 for the Client edition and $319 for the Server edition.
