(Nasdaq: SUNW), the creator of the open source Sun Solaris(TM) operating system, today announced new features for the Sun Java System Content Delivery Server (CDS), a mobile content delivery and management platform that enables mobile operators to launch and sustain content services more cost-effectively.

Sun's latest offering enables leading operators worldwide to grow their service portfolios and increase revenue by making it easier to add, manage and bill for virtually all types of wireless content through a new and unique distributed download architecture. New Sun CDS customers Telecom New Zealand and Telefonica Moviles de Argentina have chosen the Sun CDS solutions running on the Solaris OS, the most advanced operating system on the planet, to quickly bring new services and content to market.

Sun's CDS offers a complete solution for vending mobile content, making it easy to set up and run content services more profitably -- including content catalogs, storefronts, viral marketing tools, payment and delivery components. New features such as the Central Device Catalog enable service providers to launch new devices effortlessly and quickly by aggregating sources of content from multiple providers and then collecting accurate data to help ensure correct records, enabling the segmentation of customers according to usage patterns and demographics. Sun CDS handles the download of all types of mobile content to any capable device. Deployments range from affordable off-portal content stores that can be set up in a few weeks to highly available systems serving over a hundred million subscribers. These new features improve customer satisfaction by directing new content, promotions and advertising campaigns to an appropriate group.

Sun's updated CDS solution now eases the content download process by allowing a user to download content through a mobile-originated push, using a short code, and by keyword. Users with older phones or devices will now have access to premium SMS content services -- higher value content like music, rich ringtones, graphics, video and games. These enhancements will effectively increase both the subscriber base and average revenue per user for value added content downloads for deployers of the new CDS system.
