HP Ranked No. 1 in Worldwide Revenue, Market Share for Distributed Performance and Availability Management Software

1 January 1970

HP today announced that it is the worldwide leader in software license revenue and market share for distributed performance and availability management software for the third consecutive year, according to a recent IDC market report.(1)

According to the IDC study, HP worldwide distributed performance and availability management software license revenue grew by 15.8 percent in 2004, outpacing the overall one-year growth of 11.6 percent for the market category. HP maintained its first place ranking in worldwide market share with 24.1 percent, more than double the market share of each of the next two closest competitors.

"Our strong revenue growth and leading market share position demonstrates that our strategy is resonating with customers and our comprehensive HP OpenView software portfolio of organic and acquired capabilities are delivering what customers want and need," said Todd DeLaughter, vice president and general manager, Management Software Business, HP. "We expect our growth to continue to outpace the market and our top competitors by delivering world-class management software solutions that address today's critical business challenges."

According to the IDC study, the distributed performance and availability management software market achieved revenue of $2.29 billion in 2004 and is forecast to grow to $3.71 billion in 2009, a compound annual growth rate of 10.2 percent.

The study also showed HP leading in two constituent submarkets for 2004: worldwide distributed performance management software, with a 20 percent market share, and, for the third consecutive year, worldwide distributed event automation software, with 34.7 percent market share.

The IDC report defines the distributed performance and availability management software market as "including the software tools that are routinely used in IT operations or by end users to manage the performance and response of distributed systems to nonscheduled system and application events."

Distributed systems and applications are primarily those deployed on UNIX®, Linux, or Microsoft Windows® operating environments. HP OpenView products and solutions in this category include HP OpenView Operations for Windows, Operations for Linux and Operations for UNIX, OpenView Performance Manager and OpenView Performance Insight.

HP OpenView management solutions automate the dynamic link between business and IT by providing the insight required to continually measure, assess and control the business. More information about the HP OpenView portfolio is available at http://www.hp.com/managementsoftware.
