Funambol's Mobile Open Source Software Gains Popularity Worldwide for PIM Applications

1 January 1970

Funambol, the mobile open source software company, today announced a series of customers in Asia and North America who are deploying production Personal Information Management (PIM) solutions based on Funambol's open source Sync4j mobile application server.

"Delivering mobile capabilities for the latest applications is becoming more difficult for developers who are restricted by proprietary device synchronization and management solutions," said Fabrizio Capobianco, CEO, Funambol. "By using Funambol's open source Sync4j mobile application server, companies gain flexibility, reduce development time and meet consumer demand for increased mobility."

Mobile PIM solutions, which allow users to organize their personal email, calendars and contacts from any location, require reliable data synchronization across wireless networks. While proprietary solutions have been available, industry players are seeing the obvious business advantages of using open source technology. When developed with Funambol's Sync4j open source mobile application server, products are robust, highly efficient and quickly delivered to the marketplace.

Companies that have recently adopted Funambol's Sync4j to develop PIM solutions include North American application service provider CRM ASP, Inc., New Zealand application developer Synapse Group and independent software vendor (ISV) PurpleACE.

CRM ASP, the largest on-demand CRM provider, will extend its mobile functionality for PIM by integrating Sync4j into its application stack. "Funambol's Sync4j gives us an effective way to quickly extend the capabilities of our solutions to include mobility and offer an even more compelling product to our customers," said Eric Stone, CEO, CRM ASP.

Synapse Group, which provides strategic consulting, systems integration and application development services, is using the mobile application server to deliver its PIM product to network operators in New Zealand and Australia.

"By using Funambol's Sync4j, we gain a competitive advantage that includes delivering better quality for our customers and at a lower cost investment for our business," said Garth Stewart, VP of Technology, Synapse Group. "We can't emphasize enough the value of using an open source solution for delivering mobile data services."

PurpleACE, a leading independent software vendor (ISV) in Singapore, is integrating Sync4j into its PIM product used by wireless service providers and network operators. Funambol's Sync4j helps PurpleACE offer mobile data services to its customers in Singapore, the People's Republic of China and other Asia markets representing more than 368 million mobile phone subscribers.

"Funambol's Sync4j mobile application server has allowed us to address a wider range of phones for our existing PIM solution," said Scott Sproule, CEO, PurpleACE.
