Free Open-Source OLAP Server "Palo" Launches Successfully – Technical Preview II Available Now
1 January 1970 Jedox announces the immediate availability of the Technical Preview II of Palo, a multi-dimensional OLAP data server for Microsoft Excel, PHP, .NET and Java. Palo is available as a free download under www.palo.net. Since the launch of Technical Preview in October 2005, more than 5000 users have downloaded the pre-release of this Open Source MOLAP database. A range of third party OLAP products based on Palo will be launched during CeBIT 2006. Tensegrity software, based in Cologne, will offer an object based Java interface, together with the Palo integration into Eclipse (www.jpalo.com). Also on the CeBIT, Cubeware (www.cubeware.de) will present the Palo integration for their OLAP based analysis and connectivity products Cubeware Cockpit and Cubeware Importer. This means that a capacious front end is available for analysis, planning and reporting, and a powerful ETL tool for SAP, Oracle or SQL server. The major part of Palo downloads is currently started by users based in France, Germany and the U.S., followed by Spain and the U.K. Major companies and organisations are in the process of evaluating Palo, for example Quelle GmbH in Fürth/Germany: "Palo is currently being used for testing purposes by Quelle GmbH. Results are very positive so far. As we use Open Source technology to an increasing degree (e.g. PHP, Apache, Wikipedia), an Open Source OLAP tool is a very interesting product to Quelle GmbH, especially since in the near future Palo will be available together with Worksheet-Server", says Richard Vizethum, Director Information Management ERP at Quelle GmbH.
