Attachmate Announces Support for Solaris 10

1 January 1970

Attachmate Corporation, 20-year veterans of connecting users with critical enterprise applications and data, announces that Attachmate Synapta™ solutions are verified to support the Solaris™ 10 Operating System (OS). Synapta Presentation Builder and Synapta Services Builder are part of Attachmate’s family of service-enablement products that leverage existing resources for a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Attachmate is a Sun® iForce Partner and Sun-selected ISV (Independent Software Vendor) that supports the Java™ 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) environment.

Solaris 10 is an advanced UNIX® OS with a flexible, modular architecture designed to grow to meet the demands of today's enterprise environments. The Solaris 10 OS reflects the latest in network and application performance, server virtualization, file systems management and security. Existing Solaris 8 or 9 applications will run unmodified on SPARC, and require only a recompile to migrate to x64.

"Sun is committed to helping its partners and customers protect their Solaris investments," said Stephen Borcich, vice president, partner and industry marketing, Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW). "Attachmate® Synapta solutions complement our goal to lower the costs of development and deployment of mission-critical business applications."

“Attachmate shares Sun’s philosophy of protecting IT investments by extending existing resources,” said Markus Nitschke, Attachmate vice president, corporate marketing. “Our Synapta solutions help enterprises implement a service-oriented architecture, securely exposing host-based assets as reusable services for new Java applications,” he added. “This approach empowers business by making data and applications available as reusable services, and gives developers the flexibility to create new applications on the Solaris 10 platform.”

Attachmate Synapta Services Builder solutions turn existing resources into reusable services for new application development. Using open standards, Synapta fits within existing infrastructures and supports multiple hosts, access methods and client interfaces. Synapta Presentation Builder turns host applications into new applications for the Web, and creates composite applications with the addition of Web services, custom code, and data from external databases. Synapta Presentation Builder helps organizations create new intuitive user interfaces for self-service applications.
