Ann Arbor IT Zone Kicks Off Summer with June Events

The Ann Arbor IT Zone kicks off the summer with events in June. The following events will be held at SPARK Central, 330 East Liberty Street in downtown Ann Arbor. The Creativity Forum will return in the fall.

Reminder: June 1 to 2 - June 2006 Entrepreneur Boot Camp, at NCMS, 3025 Boardwalk in Ann Arbor, held from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both days.

June 6 - Rob Pasick's LeadersConnect Breakfast: "Facing Financial Dysfunction: Why Smart People do Stupid things with Money." Dr. Robert Pasick, president of LeadersConnect, will host the review with author Bert Whitehead, MBA, JD, financial advisor. Whitehead believes that it is not hard to recognize some of the most common symptoms of financial dysfunction. When a financially dysfunctional person learns to treat the symptoms, the dysfunction will eventually go away. One of the major symptoms of financial dysfunction is mortgage aversion -- most aim to pay their mortgage off in a rush. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and program from 7:45 to 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration costs $15 for members and $25 for non-members and students or $30 at the door.

June 8 - Workplace Flexibility: "Work/Life's ROI: The Payoffs Can Be Enormous." This session of the Department of Labor Women's Bureau's Flex- Options project will focus on ways that work and life policies impact financial outcomes for businesses. Kristen Stumpo of Plante Moran and Richard Sheridan of Menlo Innovations will provide support for offering work/life programs as competitive business strategies and help make the business case for implementing work/life options within an organization. Sponsored by U.S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau, the seminar runs from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and is free for everyone to attend. Pre-registration is recommended.

June 13 - "Hi-Tech Tuesday: Web 2.0 Panel." Thomas G. Meloche of Agile Resource Center, LLC will host a panel discussion about a new term "Web 2.0" which emerged from a brainstorming session between O'Reilly and MediaLive International. It refers to the belief that the web is far from "crashing" and it has continued to grow in size and importance with amazing new applications, companies, and sites popping up all the time. The discussion will include representatives from three different local companies that are currently riding the Web 2.0 wave and further explore the seven key characteristics of a Web 2.0 company, the five core components of Web 2.0 technologies, the top three business models being leveraged by Web 2.0 companies to be profitable and why Internet companies must study Web 2.0. Registration opens at 5 p.m. and followed by the presentation from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Registration is free to IT Zone members and costs $25 for non-members and $5 for students.
