Altair Engineering Partners with Red Hat to Ensure PBS Professional(R) Compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux

1 January 1970

Altair Engineering, Inc., a leading global provider of technology and services that strengthen client innovation and decision-making, today announced that it will work closely with Red Hat, the world's leading open source and Linux provider, to ensure that Altair's PBS(R) Professional(R) will continue to be compatible with future Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases. PBS Professional optimizes computing resources by aggregating and intelligently scheduling computational workloads through a robust, scalable open architecture software solution. Altair will also become a member of Red Hat's independent software vendor (ISV) program. The partnership will ensure that the Altair PBS Professional stack will support Red Hat Enterprise Linux upon general availability to consumers.

As part of this new relationship, Altair will have access to product roadmaps, engineering interlock and release candidate versions of future Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases. With the help of these and other resources, Altair will be able to develop and test PBS Professional on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and provide the robust solution that customers have come to expect. In addition to improved compatibility, the arrangement between Red Hat and Altair will also ensure that PBS Professional runs effectively on all supported versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

"With access to Red Hat road maps, we can plan more effectively and take advantage of any new features that are in development," said Michael Humphrey, vice president of Altair's PBS GridWorks(TM) business unit. "In addition, having access to pre-release codes and Red Hat technical support during our development process will be a real asset to keeping PBS as efficient and robust as possible. Finally, Altair having a co-marketing relationship with an industry leader like Red Hat is a win-win for both of our customers."

PBS Professional is an open workload management solution for high- performance computing (HPC) environments. The software maximizes the utilization of computing resources by intelligently scheduling and managing computational workload in a number of industries. By increasing the efficiency of the hardware and software resources, PBS Professional reduces total cost of ownership and provides true business value to grid computing customers.

"Red Hat is pleased to team with Altair to make sure that PBS Professional is certified to run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 at our launch and will be certified to run future Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases," said Bret Hunter, director, ISV Partner Development for Red Hat. "Both companies are leaders in their respective fields, and the relationship will be mutually beneficial. PBS Professional is superior workload management and queuing software, and the more effective applications that run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the better for our business and our customers."
