Albuquerque Newspapers Select WoodWing's Smart Connection Enterprise
1 January 1970 The Albuquerque Journal and the Albuquerque Tribune are in the process of switching to Adobe's InDesign and InCopy. They needed a versatile and powerful editorial solution, and they found all the features they were seeking in Smart Connection Enterprise.
"We were looking for an open-source solution and WoodWing Enterprise Server allows us to use Suse Linux, php, and Mysql to implement an editorial solution built around InDesign and InCopy," said Arthur Duran, Data Systems Director for the Journal and Tribune.
WoodWing's international roster of customers in the publishing world includes newspapers of all sizes, and officials were confident that the Journal and Tribune would be thrilled with the results they saw with Smart Connection Enterprise.
"This is a great partnership for both sides," says Brian Kruger, CEO of WoodWing USA. "The team in Albuquerque has essentially built, and maintained their own editorial system for years, and when they saw Smart Connection Enterprise, it offered them the tools they needed to do it all again, but this time, built around InDesign and InCopy. They were able to fashion the system based on their own needs. While most newspapers use Enterprise out of the box, this shows off how it can be customized to fit particular needs."
About The Albuquerque Journal and Tribune The Journal and Tribune enjoy a historic role in the publishing industry, as they make up the country's oldest existing JOA. Back in 1933, the two newspapers merged their printing and advertising operations, and it's a relationship that exists to this day.
The Journal, owned by the Journal Publishing Company, boasts a circulation of nearly 110,000, making it New Mexico's largest newspaper and one of the biggest papers in the entire Southwest. The Tribune, owned by E.W. Scripps Co., was founded in 1922 and has enjoyed a rich history in the state.
