Aepona Announces Full Complement of JAVA Support

1 January 1970

Aepona, the developer of enabling software for telecoms service delivery, has announced a further key open source initiative to support JAVA developers in the telecommunications world. In order to complement the company’s provision of OSA-Parlay adapters for carriers with J2EE and J2SE service delivery environments, the company has announced it is working with open source developer Mobicents to provide a Parlay Resource Adapter for JAIN-SLEE.

JAIN-SLEE is primarily designed to support the rapid development of robust telecommunications applications in Java. As a result, many operators who have investigated JAIN-SLEE environments can now avail of OSA-Parlay compliant APIs into telecommunications resources. Aepona’s Causeway product is one of the most pervasive OSA-Parlay compliant service enablement suites in use by operators worldwide. As a result, Aepona has entered into partnership with the open source organisation, Mobicents, to develop a fully Parlay-compliant Resource Adapter for JAIN-SLEE application servers.

For telecommunications operators that have standardised on JAVA as an application environment this is very significant. With a full complement of standards-compliant Java adapters in place these operators can reap all the advantages that a Parlay-compliant gateway brings -- such as vendor independence, rapid service creation and roll-out, and access to third party applications, ready-made. In addition, operators can migrate smoothly to next generation intelligent network environments freed from vendor lock-in.

According to Kieran Dalton, Aepona’s CTO, “Aepona is working in partnership with Mobicents, and providing developer resource and source contribution to this key initiative, thereby helping to create a bridgehead between the JAIN-SLEE and Parlay worlds. In short, we will create a further extension to a standards-based unified environment for next generation networks. It also means that nearly all operators worldwide will be able to avail of Aepona Causeway technology – regardless of the application delivery environment they have chosen. This shows Aepona’s commitment to a standards based approach while further extending the applicability of our market leading product suite.”

According to Ivelin Ivanov, founder of Mobicents, "this is a very exciting announcement. Aepona is recognised as a leading player in standards-based enabling technology and its software has been embraced
by top tier operators across the globe. What Mobicents and Aepona are
now focused on is providing additional standards-based components that
will further extend the resources that will be exposed by the Parlay
gateway -- using the standards defined by both JAIN-SLEE and Parlay
worlds. I am confident that the leading carriers worldwide will
applaud this initiative and I am looking forward to working with
Aepona on it."

Aepona and Mobicents are working to announce availability of the JAIN SLEE Parlay Resource Adapter in Q1 2006.

About Aepona

Aepona is a provider of telecommunications software that enables innovative service delivery solutions for operators worldwide. Aepona’s products are deployed by fixed-line and mobile carriers on three continents enabling rapid roll-out of cost-effective, value-added and customer loyalty enhancing services.

Aepona is at the forefront of convergence in telecoms -- providing the necessary infrastructure to allow operators to maximise their investment in both circuit-switched and packet-switched networks. Aepona provides an important stepping-stone in the evolution path from traditional intelligent network (IN) services to IMS -- the IP multimedia subsystem.

The Aepona Causeway suite of products addresses three key pain points felt by operators: the need to integrate disparate technologies in their networks, the requirement to gain access to ready-made network applications, and the necessity to create compelling customer propositions quickly. Aepona Causeway is a standards-compliant suite of products that includes network integration and service interaction management components. The suite supports SS7 and SIP for existing and converged networks, allowing operators to gain immediate value from service delivery platform, fixed-mobile convergence, next generation IN or new applications initiatives.

Aepona also provides a market-leading standards-based device management solution -- Aepona DMS -- used by leading mobile operators worldwide.

In short, Aepona is at the forefront of the evolution towards better, more service-rich, communications networks.

About Mobicents

Mobicents brings to telecom applications a robust component model and execution environment. It compliments J2EE to enable convergence of voice, video and data in next generation intelligent applications.

In addition to a solid Open Source VoIP platform, the Mobicents project provides EclipSLEE -- a development tool, which greatly simplifies the creation of new SLEE applications. For further information visit www.mobicents.org.
